Burial — The Post-2010 EPs and the Extended Format

Following Untrue in 2007, Burial produced a series of EPs — Street Halo (2011), Kindred (2012), Rival Dealer (2013), Antidawn (2021) — that each refined and extended the Untrue vocabulary without repeating it. The EPs introduced longer track lengths (some exceeding 12 minutes), more explicit structural development, and a deepening engagement with ambient and drone textures. Rival Dealer in particular — three tracks totalling 26 minutes — is widely considered his most emotionally direct and politically resonant work, its sleeve notes referencing queer identity and the violence of social marginalisation in terms that were unusually explicit for an artist who had previously communicated almost entirely through sound.
