The Rise of UK Bass Festivals — Outlook, Dimension and the Outdoor Scene
UK Bass & Electronics · Updated May 2026
Outlook and Dimension are the two UK bass festivals that have defined outdoor electronic music culture in Croatia since 2008 and 2011 respectively. Their model — a historical fort as venue, a soundsystem culture ethic, a booking policy that spans drum and bass, UK bass and experimental electronic music — has become the standard for bass-oriented outdoor events globally.
Outlook Festival: Origins and Identity
Outlook Festival launched in 2008 at Fort Punta Christo outside Pula in Croatia — a 19th-century Austro-Hungarian military fortress converted into a multi-stage festival site. The founding premise was soundsystem culture: Outlook's aesthetic, programming and physical infrastructure were designed around the idea that bass music requires a specific acoustic environment and a specific listener commitment. The opening of Fort Punta Christo as an event space gave the festival a setting that no UK venue could replicate — the fort's stone walls, tunnels and moat providing a physical context for music whose defining characteristic is sub-bass weight. The booking policy from the beginning covered the full range of UK bass music: drum and bass, jungle, dubstep, UK bass, grime and dancehall, programmed with a curatorial intelligence that distinguished Outlook from the generic bass music festival model. Over fifteen years the festival has hosted virtually every significant UK bass artist.
Dimension Festival: The Electronic Music Sister
Dimension Festival launched in 2011 at the same Fort Punta Christo site, initially as a second-weekend extension of the Outlook concept but with a programme that moved further into electronic music: techno, house, UK bass and experimental music sit alongside the drum and bass core. Dimension's booking policy has included Four Tet, Bicep, Floating Points and Overmono alongside the drum and bass and UK bass artists who define the Outlook model. The two festivals together represent the most significant convergence of UK bass and electronic music culture outside the UK club scene.

The Outlook and Dimension festivals have each developed a strong visual identity — the Croatia setting, the fort architecture, the bass culture aesthetic — that translates directly into merch. The Outlook Festival merch and Dimension Festival merch in our store reference the specific visual language of each event: the Pula coastline, the fort structure, the deep bass culture of both festivals.
